60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift

In June 2008 the Airlift Veterans visited Berlin to celebrate
the 60th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift.

In June 1948, the U.S. Air Force reacted to the blockade with
daily flights that dropped much needed food and supplies
into West Berlin. On May 12, 1949, the Soviet government
yielded and lifted the blockade.

The airlift ended Sept. 30, 1949, 15 months after it started.
